Yana Young's hundred-day banquet was held at a seven-star hotel owned by the Fairfax family.
Both the the Fairfax and Young families held tremendous influence in Kingston, so the guest list was especially long.
On top of that, there were close friends from home and abroad, plus big names from Frederick Fairfax’s social circle.
Olivia Young had no hosting duties; her only job was to look stunning with her daughter.
"Sister-in-law! Sister-in-law, do you remember me?"
Leonard Holmes burst into Olivia Young’s private suite, carrying a huge gift box.
"I finally get to meet you! My brother’s been keeping me away this whole time."
Olivia Young looked at him blankly. "You don’t remember me? Back in high school, I was in the class next to yours, you even helped me with math problems in the teacher’s office."
"That rings a bell..." Olivia Young couldn’t remember at all.
She’d always been a top student in math, and plenty had sought her help.
Leonard Holmes was just one among many.
"Long time no see." Leonard Holmes’s ears flushed a little. "Is my brother treating you well?"
Olivia Young grinned back, "Has he blocked you on his Moments feed?"
"No!"
"Then you should be able to see for yourself—we’re doing great." Olivia Young gently held her baby girl’s tiny hand. "Come on, say hi to Uncle."
The little one babbled, not understanding any of it.
But Leonard Holmes’s heart was instantly melted.
So cute!
Absolutely adorable.
Unfair!
Why did his brother get so lucky?
He married his goddess and now even had an adorable baby to boot.
All thanks to his goddess.
His little niece looked just like Olivia Young.
"Can I hold her?"
"You can, but don’t kiss her. Babies have weaker immune systems." Olivia Young carefully handed her daughter over to him.
Leonard Holmes held the little one as if he might cry from happiness.
"Baby, baby..."
"You’re so cute!"
The little one wasn’t afraid of strangers at all. Nestled in Leonard Holmes’s arms, she gazed around with her bright, curious eyes.
"If only I could have a daughter this cute..."
Olivia Young touched her ear, uncertain why it felt so warm and red tonight.
"Over here, over here!"
"Leonard Holmes!"
"You’re pretty early!"
"Don’t push, don’t push!"
"Queue up, everyone!"
Olivia Young watched as one man after another trooped in, making her ears even hotter.
What on earth was going on?
Someone explain, please!
Most of them looked familiar.
Surely not all alumni?
Seems like some weren’t even her classmates.
Her magnetic allure as described in the original novel was still fully intact.
"Lily, it’s been too long."
"Miss Young, congratulations!"
"Haven’t seen you in ages. You’re even more captivating than ever."
"No, you’re even more beautiful now."
"Miss Young."
Olivia Young greeted them all with a perfect smile. "Thank you for coming to my baby’s hundred-day feast."
Frederick Fairfax, where exactly are you entertaining your guests?
How did you let so many in here!
Everyone was dressed to the nines, looking glamorous and radiant. Anyone would think this was a matchmaking event, not a baby’s banquet.
The air was thick with cologne.
Different men, different fragrances.
Somebody, please save her!
"What a cute little princess!"
"Of course! With our campus belle as her mom!"
"Grow up beautiful like your mom, little one."
"Just wait, baby—I’ll try to get married and have a son this year, and we can betroth our kids!" ("Betroth our kids" refers to a traditional informal child engagement.)
"Baby, baby, can I hold you?"
Several men clustered around Leonard Holmes, hands reaching eagerly.
Leonard Holmes shielded the baby. "No! Babies are delicate, and you all reek of cologne—stay back!"
"Back up! Anyone who smokes, drinks, or is sick—don’t come near!"
"Our little princess is extra precious, you know!"
Olivia Young caught someone whispering that Leonard Holmes was so protective, he must be the father.
Seriously?
That’s a wild rumor if she ever heard one.
"Give her back to me."
Leonard Holmes eyed Olivia Young’s hands, reluctant to give up the little princess.
Don’t take her from me... Not yet...
Still, he handed Yana back to Olivia Young, obviously unwilling.
Thank goodness, Frederick Fairfax was his brother. He’d still get to see the baby.
The others weren’t so lucky—not even a single hug.
Olivia Young cradled her daughter, and—unsurprisingly—the group simply re-formed around her.
Frederick Fairfax walked into the suite at that moment, taking in the whole scene:
Olivia Young—dressed in a pale lavender qipao—sat on a single sofa, baby in arms, surrounded by a mountain of gifts and a veritable pack of men!
Every man was beaming, eyes glued to Olivia Young—and the baby, too!
It was like a helpless little bunny had wandered into a den of wolves.
A pack of wolves circling.
What the hell!
Was he, the real husband, invisible?
Frederick Fairfax strode over. "Why is everyone crowded here? Please take your seats."
"Just here to see the little princess."
(ˉ▽ ̄~) Tch—
See the baby? Yeah, right. He knew exactly what this bunch was up to.
He'd only stepped out for a moment, and suddenly his wife and daughter were surrounded by wolves.
Frederick Fairfax stood by Olivia Young, hand firmly on her shoulder—a blatant declaration of ownership.
"You’ve all had a look. Now get lost!"
It sounded like he was talking to Leonard Holmes alone, but really, that message was meant for everyone.
"Come on, President Feng, don’t be such a miser! How about betrothing our kids?"
"I called dibs first! Your son better not fight my son for her!"
"Just because you called dibs doesn’t mean it’s settled. And look at you—your son’ll be ugly, too!"
Olivia Young: "..."
Are they seriously arguing about this?
She never agreed to any child engagement!
Frederick Fairfax’s face turned icy. "In your dreams! No baby engagements here. Don’t even think about it."
Leonard Holmes tried to smooth things over. "Alright, alright, let’s go."
"Sister-in-law, you and the baby should come out soon, too."
As the crowd finally filed out, Olivia Young felt the air clear and her breath ease.
"That was terrifying..."
She had clearly underestimated the effects of her own charisma.
Seriously!
So many devoted suitors.
And yet, in the original story, she still lost?
Please.
With fans like this, why would she waste her time on just one man?
She could succeed at anything she wanted.
The original plot really did her dirty.
"I think so too." Frederick Fairfax leaned in. "Wife, you won’t divorce me, will you?"
If she divorced him this morning, Olivia Young would have a line of marriage proposals by afternoon.
"Depends on how you behave."
"I haven’t had any chances lately—our daughter’s been glueing herself to you. Tonight I’ll make up for it." Frederick Fairfax’s eyes glinted mischievously. "Let’s play something exciting."
"How exciting?"
"However you like it, I’ll give it to you."
For a moment, neither harbored any mundane concerns.
"Later, alright..."
"Wife, your ears are so red." Frederick Fairfax murmured near her ear, staring intently.
"It was just crowded and hot back there."
Was it really from the heat, or did someone just confess to his wife?
Would anyone actually dare to do that?
Frederick Fairfax turned Olivia Young’s face toward him. "Do you still love me?"
