Olivia Young naturally hooked her arms around his neck, fingertips gently tracing circles at the nape of his neck. "What addendum? I just gave birth, and you know how the saying goes: ‘three years of pregnancy brain.’ My memory’s not great—why don't you remind me?"
"The agreement needs to help strengthen our marriage. We should kiss every day, and at night, we should…"
"Should what?" Olivia Young stared at his flushed ears, mischief welling up inside her. "So you dare think about it but can’t say it out loud? Frederick Fairfax, are you a coward or what?"
Frederick Fairfax fought to ignore the tingling at his neck. "Once your postpartum month is over, you can come see for yourself if I’m a coward."
"Finishing the postpartum month doesn’t mean we can be together yet. I still need to see how my body recovers."
"I never said it had to be… that. I was talking about…"
But staring into her gleaming, almond-shaped eyes, he deflated. "Never mind, we’ll do what you say."
If he ever discovered that she was the woman from that night, then he’d go along with everything she wanted!
Actually, verifying whether Olivia Young was the woman from that night was ridiculously easy.
A paternity test!
Tonight he’d sneak a lock of his daughter’s hair.
Between the background noise of zombies howling and machine gun fire, he gently kissed her soft lips.
Olivia Young was utterly stunned.
Had she just said they should kiss?
Forget it. Might as well kiss!
They'd been married a few months and only kissed a handful of times. Honestly, Frederick Fairfax’s kissing hadn’t improved at all—it was still terrible!
Olivia Young chose to take matters into her own hands, kissing him in a way that actually felt good.
Their lips and teeth tangled in a possessive kiss, his masculine scent enveloping her—warm, soft, with a faint freshness that left her both numb and electrified.
Her mind went blank, reduced to nothing but soft, helpless whimpers.
"Again," he murmured.
Olivia Young barely caught her breath. "Are you trying to suffocate me?"
"Never!"
"No more kissing, my lips are all tingly." She pushed him away. "If you’re bored, go hand-wash our daughter’s clothes."
Their daughter’s clothes were washed by the maid… but he could always wash his wife’s clothes.
"I’ll help wash yours."
"No need, my mom’s on laundry duty."
"Then I’ll watch a movie with you."
Frederick Fairfax squeezed onto the sofa, pulling Olivia Young into his arms so he could be her human pillow while conveniently holding the tablet for her.
Perfect. Except… not so comfortable.
Frederick Fairfax was so solid—definitely not as soft as the couch.
This was such an awful position.
"Wife," Frederick Fairfax murmured right against her ear, "stop squirming."
"I’m not…"
Speaking of squirming—he was the master of squirming! Whenever she told him not to move, he never listened!
So Olivia Young started to move. Yes, she wiggled! Rocking from side to side, she treated Frederick Fairfax like a human rocking chair.
He locked his left arm tight around her waist. "Olivia Young! There are other ways to take responsibility—don’t push me."
She sobered up immediately.
The truth was, during pregnancy she occasionally had those urges, but now her hormones had plummeted and she felt nothing of the sort.
So she obediently watched the movie. Not long after, her eyes drooped shut, and she drifted off to sleep.
Frederick Fairfax set the tablet down, then carefully carried her to bed. Shielding her upper face with his hand, his expression unreadable, he lingered for several minutes before leaving the master bedroom.
A minute later, Frederick Fairfax entered the nursery.
Everything was a soft pink—it was obvious they’d known ahead of time that it was a girl. Even so, no one had told him.
"Sir," the nanny said, making room for him.
The little bundle slept soundly, hands tucked under her cheeks, long lashes resting on creamy skin so soft and plump it looked like jelly.
But—sorry, sweetheart!
Dad has to borrow a few hairs for the paternity test.
"Good girl, my sweet girl~","Stay asleep, darling."
He grabbed a few hairs and gave a firm tug.
"Waaah!"
"Aah!"
Little Bundle let out an instant wail.
Frederick Fairfax quickly stuffed the hairs into his pocket and picked her up to comfort her.
"Baby, don’t cry—it’s time to find Mom."
But after a few steps, he paused. Mom was asleep.
The baby’s eyes were large—just like Olivia Young’s. Even her eyebrows and nose resembled Olivia Young’s… Her mouth, though, looked a lot like his.
Little Bundle scrunched up her mouth and cried even louder. Frederick Fairfax rocked her gently in his arms.
"It’s Dad, sweetheart. Dad’s right here, don’t cry…"
He even tried a falsetto baby voice—which disgusted even himself.
"Baby~ It doesn’t hurt, it really doesn’t…"
Frederick Fairfax gently rubbed her head. "Shh, shh… It’s our little secret, just between you and Dad."
The baby's round, watery eyes stared up at him, her mouth jutting out in a pout big enough to hang a pencil on. Before long, her pale cheeks were red from sobbing.
So adorable!
With a baby this cute, she had to be his biological daughter! If that was true… he’d never let Olivia Young go.
Frederick Fairfax soothed her for almost half an hour before the tears finally stopped—it wasn’t clear if she’d passed out from exhaustion or simply fallen asleep.
He gently laid her in the crib as the nanny came over to wipe her face. Then he went to his study.
A few minutes later, Ian Hope followed him there.
The study was dim but for a single lamp on the desk, the curtains drawn. The air was thick with secrecy.
Frederick Fairfax wrapped the baby hairs in a tissue. He pulled out a few strands of his own hair and did the same.
Ian Hope scooped them up and tucked them away. "Boss, I’ve got a question."
"What is it?"
"If Madam was the woman from that night, why haven’t you noticed all this time? Does that mean you two…" Ian Hope trailed off, hesitant.
He meant: did you not even see her face that night? Did you just grab any woman you found?
Frederick Fairfax shot him a cold, icy look.
Ian Hope turned around and hastily left!
He really didn’t get what his boss saw in this. Affairs between husband and wife weren’t his business—he’d definitely overstepped! He blamed his own nosiness.
Frederick Fairfax was left alone in the study. He pinched the space between his brows.
If he could relive that night, he never would have insisted on turning off the lights. He would’ve made sure to see her face.
At dinner, Grandfather Feng had brought a few name options for the baby.
"I really like this line," said Olivia Young with a smile. "‘To speak at the right time is wisdom; to be silent at the right time, also wisdom.’ So, Yana Young for her formal name, and call her Ashley as a nickname. What do you think?"
She wondered if Frederick Fairfax had already discussed with his family about the baby taking her surname. Her own family was aware and didn’t mind.
"Excellent!" Grandfather Yu praised, clapping his hands. "So pretty! Yanzhi—sounds like ‘face value.’ When she grows up, she’ll be a stunning beauty!"
"Sure, anything works." Feng’s father applauded too.
"It’s lovely," Frederick Fairfax said, fixing Olivia Young with a meaningful gaze.
Of course, they didn’t yet know that the baby might actually be Feng’s granddaughter, so they didn’t mind whose surname she bore. She hoped her parents and grandfather wouldn’t come to regret it someday.
After dinner, Olivia Young went upstairs to the nursery.
The little one had awakened and was gazing curiously around with clear, bright eyes.
Olivia Young sat at the bedside. "Hello, baby. I’m Mom. I’m officially telling you—darling, you have a name now! Your name is Yana Young, and your nickname is Ashley. Welcome to the world, Ashley sweetheart! Mom will protect you, and help you grow up happy, healthy, and safe. Our family’s not short on money, you chose a great family to be born into."
The baby that didn’t exist in the original novel was now in her arms, so likely, the original plot no longer had much to do with her, either. She wondered how Grace Gordon and Annabelle Winters’s relationship was progressing now.
In the original book, they got together, had two kids, and wrapped up the story. Hopefully, they’d get together soon, fall in love, marry, have babies, and let the novel reach its happy ending!
