The moment Frederick Fairfax saw his daughter, his heart melted.
Biological or not—it didn’t matter.
He was going to acknowledge this daughter!
A stepdad is still a dad!
He didn’t mind playing the part.
So soft and cuddly.
Absolutely adorable!
He wanted to give her a kiss.
But his wife had said he shouldn’t kiss the baby without reason.
So he didn’t kiss.
"Cute, isn’t she?"
Sir Fairfax suddenly appeared by his side. "You should spend more time with Lily. She went through the whole birth by herself!"
Frederick Fairfax retorted, "All of you were there. How is that her doing it alone?"
"Are we her husband? Could we go into the delivery room with her?"
He realized his mistake.
A huge mistake.
The last day of filming and the baby’s birth had landed on the very same day.
"The little one was in a hurry to come out—just to celebrate Dad wrapping up shooting."
Sir Fairfax couldn’t hold back and gave him a light punch. "Listen to yourself, so pleased with yourself! Tell me, what did you actually do? Huh?"
"Grandfather, it can’t be said I had nothing to do with it. What if—"
"What if Olivia Young is actually that woman from that night? And this little one in front of me... is really my daughter."
If that were true, Grandfather would be over the moon.
"Go on, get that silver hair of yours dyed back to normal! Or you won’t be allowed to hold your daughter in the future."
"Why not? My hair doesn’t make a difference!"
"It’ll ruin her sense of style! What will you do if she brings home some blonde guy in 20 years? Go on, hurry!" grumbled Sir Fairfax.
No way!
He wanted to head back to the hospital room to see Lily.
Later that night.
Olivia Young was woken by the night nurse.
There was a heavy weight on her body.
The man beside her breathed heavily, grumbling in his sleep after being disturbed.
"Wife~"
Olivia Young pushed his hand away and took the adorable baby from the nurse.
The baby pouted and began to cry, soft and pitiful.
Frederick Fairfax heard the noise and opened his eyes to see Olivia Young lifting her shirt to nurse their baby.
Was he really allowed to watch this???
He tried to avert his gaze, but his eyes refused to move away.
The baby ate fiercely, and as soon as she was done, she spit up milk.
The night nurse quickly scooped the baby away and closed the door.
Olivia Young’s chest ached with fullness. The baby was too tiny and could only drink a little at a time.
She took out the breast pump.
From the corner of her eye, she caught Frederick Fairfax—who was watching her with sparkling eyes. "You aren’t embarrassed at all!"
"She’s my wife—what’s there to be embarrassed about?"
"Have you ever watched? You’re watching now."
It was precisely because he hadn’t seen it before, that he wanted to watch now.
Frederick Fairfax’s mind was hazy and clouded with desire.
"Do you want any help?"
Olivia Young’s lips curled. "Oh? You’re such a good Samaritan. How exactly do you plan to help me?"
"Do you even know how to use that thing?" He nodded at the breast pump in her hand.
"I... don’t."
"So, were you planning to help with your mouth instead?" Olivia Young’s fist tightened. "Dream on!"
Not even allowed to think about it?
Is it a crime to so much as imagine it?
"You’re such a perv!"
Olivia Young couldn’t help but grumble. "Even this interests you!"
"Then what should I do?"
Frederick Fairfax sat up. "You won’t let me help, and the baby doesn’t need me right now."
Olivia Young mulled it over. "Come to think of it, you aren’t much use at the moment. Why not go out and make some money? Do a variety show or something. Call it ‘A New Baby in Showbiz’."
"I make more in a minute from my company than any show would pay. Not interested."
Frederick Fairfax really was a walking goldmine.
On money, he could rival any leading man.
Olivia Young nodded in agreement. "A husband as rich as you really is charming."
Charming!
He was charming, she’d said.
Frederick Fairfax couldn’t hide his grin. "If I’m so charming, wouldn’t you like to sleep in my arms tonight?"
"Don’t bother me!"
Frederick Fairfax: "..."
Why could women change their moods faster than flipping a page?
Might as well sleep.
He wanted to know what Olivia Young was thinking, unless he could read minds!
The next day, since mother and baby were both fine, they went home.
With help at home, Olivia Young only needed to breastfeed the baby; the rest of the time, she was free.
Her only real task was picking out a name for the baby.
Frederick Fairfax had said from the start that it was fine for the child to take her surname.
Olivia Young flipped through some Tang and Song dynasty poetry for inspiration, then flopped onto the bed to watch a movie.
The action scenes on-screen drowned out the sound of Frederick Fairfax’s footsteps.
He leaned down, close to Olivia Young’s cheek. "Zombie flick?"
"Yeah. When I was pregnant, I couldn’t watch—didn’t want to scare the baby. Now I can finally binge. Alice is so cool!" Olivia Young’s eyes sparkled. "If there really was a zombie outbreak, I’d want to stick with Alice."
Alice.
Alice!
A sly flash appeared in Frederick Fairfax’s eyes. He played with her fingers and murmured, "Wife, the woman who took my first time was also named Alice. What a coincidence, a namesake."
Olivia Young felt a flicker of guilt—was Frederick Fairfax finally catching on?
"Took your first time? For a big guy like you, which woman could possibly force you into anything? Frederick Fairfax, are you seriously trying to skip out on responsibility?" Olivia Young tried to pull her hand away.
"Of course I wanted to take responsibility, but she ran away! Why do you think that was?"
Frederick Fairfax held Olivia Young’s face, their eyes meeting. "Wife, with a man as handsome and fit as me, after a night together, why would she bolt and stay all mysterious? You’re a woman—give me your perspective."
Now? He wanted her advice now?
Too late.
The baby was already born, snoring away in the next room!
"My guess is... maybe..." Olivia Young’s gaze slid meaningfully downward. "You just... weren’t that good?"
"Yu. Xi. Yue!"
"No need to shout! I’m just spitballing." Olivia Young patted his chest innocently. "Don’t be mad. If she doesn’t want you to take responsibility, you’re really not losing anything. Just let it go."
"Not losing anything? That was my V-card! My innocence!"
Frederick Fairfax put on his best hurt-hero act and buried his face in her neck. "Wife..."
It made her feel like the bad guy in all this.
She was technically the victim that night!
His lack of skills had left her sore, but she’d endured it.
And now he was the one playing aggrieved.
Olivia Young ruffled his silver hair. "Your technique was just fine. So maybe... the hardware was the problem?"
"I..."
Frederick Fairfax let out a frustrated huff and bit her shoulder. "Olivia Young, just you wait!"
"What, are you going to violate our agreement and make a move on me?" Olivia Young poked his chest with a fingertip. "No funny business, Jingche~"
"You, you—"
Frederick Fairfax stormed out in a huff.
Moments later, with the same bluster, he returned.
This time, holding a thin sheaf of papers.
Rip—
He tore their agreement up and tossed the shreds in the trash.
"That agreement’s void now!"
"I have another copy." Olivia Young watched him calmly. "So shredding yours is pointless."
The movie’s action raged on in the background.
Frederick Fairfax leaned over her, hands braced on each side, deep eyes reflecting her face.
Warm breath brushed her cheek.
His voice was low and rough: "Wife, about that amendment you mentioned... I think we could negotiate."
Olivia Young, Olivia Young...
You’d better keep hiding it well!
If I ever find out you were really that woman that night—
I won’t let you off so easily!
