Watching the affectionate pair, she couldn't help but think of her own marriage with Yvonne Sung.
Ever since the Snow family fell into trouble, his words to her had become strangely sarcastic. Maybe before, he had listened to her for fear of the Snow family's power—no matter how unreasonable her requests, Yvonne Sung would always comply. But now, he wouldn't heed her at all.
Just a couple of days ago, Zoe Carter had come to the Xue house to demand that Yvonne Sung move back home, saying that being a live-in son-in-law just wasn’t worth it now that the Snow family was on the verge of bankruptcy. There was no reason for her son to go down with the ship.
Fang Lin had nearly rolled up her sleeves and started a fight then and there, she was so furious.
Most of the house servants had been dismissed, go home, and Xue Qiang simply couldn't shoulder the company on his own. He could only watch in helpless frustration as Wanrui's stock price continued to fall, unable to do a thing about it.
Before, people used to tread carefully around them because the Snow family was at its peak. But now that bankruptcy loomed, those whom she’d offended no longer needed to hold back, and their barbed ridicule was frequent and biting.
She’d never suffered such humiliation before, yet now there was no room left for her to choose her path—even Yvonne Sung seemed eager to trample all over her.
Shen Sylvia Shaw noticed her distraction and asked, “Cousin, are you alright? Why do you look so upset?”
After all, Shen Sylvia Shaw was in the same boat as her now, her loyalty naturally leaning toward her cousin.
Her back was to Lauren Shaw’s table, and she hadn’t noticed Lauren Shaw and Yancy Shaw nearby; she just sensed that Eva Snow’s mood was off.
Eva Snow tightened her grip at her side, lowering her eyes to hide her true feelings. “It’s nothing. I just saw someone I really can’t stand.”
“Someone you can’t stand?” Shen Sylvia Shaw followed her gaze, and when she saw Lauren Shaw and Yancy Shaw sitting just a short distance away, her expression darkened; suddenly, even the delicious food in front of her lost its taste.
Yancy Shaw looked over, fixing her with a cool gaze. She seemed startled and quickly averted her eyes, not daring to look again.
The two of them were nearly finished eating, so they got up to leave.
Lauren Shaw watched their retreating backs and chuckled. “Just now, Shen Sylvia Shaw looked at you like a mouse seeing a cat.”
“Am I really that scary?”
“Not at all.” Lauren Shaw had never found him frightening.
To her, Yancy Shaw was the ideal man—gentle, considerate, and most importantly, incredibly good to her. With someone like him, how could she possibly feel afraid?
“Back when Shen Sylvia Shaw lived at the Shen house, she was always afraid of me.” Yancy Shaw said this unhurriedly, his every movement pleasing to the eye as he ate.
She had noticed that before. Blood ties were a strange thing—years spent under the same roof, but Shen Sylvia Shaw had always seemed distant from him.
Lauren Shaw put down her chopsticks and wiped her mouth. “Once we have kids, you can’t act so fierce with them.”
Yancy Shaw raised his brows and replied without hesitation, “Alright.”
Lauren Shaw’s lips curled upward at the corners.
Outside the restaurant, Eva Snow couldn’t resist a backward glance. Yancy Shaw and Lauren Shaw, caught up in conversation, exchanged a smile—an atmosphere that made people envy them.
How she had once wished the person sitting across from Yancy Shaw was herself. But there was no point in dreaming now.
Just then, Shen Sylvia Shaw spotted a familiar figure in the distance. She tugged on Eva Snow’s sleeve hesitantly. “Cousin, isn’t that your husband?”
Eva Snow followed her gaze, and sure enough, it was Yvonne Sung—but next to him was a woman clinging to his arm, walking with him into a women’s clothing store.
A wave of anger crashed in her heart. She and Yvonne Sung may not have had real feelings, but they were married in the eyes of the law. Until she’d brought up divorce, he was supposed to behave himself. Yet here he was, boldly shopping arm in arm with another woman, looking as close as could be.
She felt as if she’d been played for a fool. The sight lit a fire of rage in her chest: whether from repressed frustration or shock at Yvonne Sung’s betrayal, she didn’t know—only that she needed to vent or go mad.
Shen Sylvia Shaw was still muttering curses under her breath, not realizing that Eva Snow had already stormed into the boutique.
The woman on Yvonne Sung’s arm was none other than Yana Quinn.
Not long ago, old flames had rekindled between them, and their relationship was now better than ever; Yvonne Sung treated her better than he ever had before.
Yana Quinn looped her arm through his and went to pick out a dress, heading into the fitting room as Yvonne Sung patiently waited outside.
Eva Snow burst in, jabbing a finger at Yvonne Sung’s nose. “Well, aren’t you something! Out gallivanting with your mistress in broad daylight—I had to come and see which little snake dared to make me the laughingstock!”
With that, she made a beeline for the fitting room. Yvonne Sung grabbed her wrist, looking thoroughly exasperated. “What are you doing here?”
“What am I doing here? You want to know why I’m here? Ha—if I wasn’t here, how could I catch you two red-handed?”
Emotions running high, Eva Snow couldn’t hold it in anymore. Over the past days, everything had piled up: her parents' endless fighting, the sneers and ridicule from others, her husband’s constant sarcasm. And now—catching him cheating, right before her eyes! She needed to let this out before it drove her insane.
Yvonne Sung’s grip tightened painfully on her forearm. “Cheating? What nonsense are you spouting!”
Before Eva Snow could fire back, the fitting room door opened. When she saw who stepped out, her disbelief was plain. “You?!”
Yana Quinn’s last fight with her at the bar hadn’t been settled—well, this was her chance for payback.
The smile on Yana Quinn’s face vanished as soon as she saw Eva Snow.
“Why shouldn’t it be me?” She strode confidently to Yvonne Sung’s side, taking his arm. “Yuche only married you because he was set up—he’s the real victim here. He did it all to save you from public shaming, but did you ever show him gratitude? All you ever did was belittle him.”
Back then, Yvonne Sung had only agreed to marry because of Xue Wenchang. Now that Wenchang was in prison and Sean Snow was living abroad, there was nothing left about the Snow family to be scared of. Why would he continue to let Eva Snow humiliate him?
“Ha! Why don’t you ask him why he married me in the first place? Wasn’t it for the Snow family’s status and power? Now that the family’s in ruins, you’re quick to throw us aside. Yvonne Sung, you’re worse than a dog!”
Even dogs are grateful for a simple meal—you, on the other hand...
Yvonne Sung’s face turned to ice, his words harsh and clipped as he tried to keep himself in check. “Go ahead and throw a fit if you have to, but don’t do it here—I won’t let you embarrass me in public.”
