Time always flies when it’s busy. Before the art exhibit rolled around, Mia Moore and Charles Chase’s wedding came first.
Two days before the wedding, Charles Chase and Mia Moore went to the hospital for a prenatal check-up and to see how the baby was doing. While they were at it, they thought they’d ask Song Ying if there was anything special to keep in mind for the wedding.
But who’d have thought their trip would lead to a huge bit of gossip.
Song Ying’s office was on the twelfth floor. She had the only private office on that floor.
The couple walked quietly down the hall—Mia Moore was still annoyed at Charles Chase for insisting on pink roses for the wedding. She’d declared she wasn’t going to talk to him for ten whole minutes.
Typical straight guy taste, she thought with a huff, marching ahead while Charles Chase dutifully trailed behind, holding her little hand in his.
Yes, my wife said not to talk for ten minutes, so I’ll behave, he thought.
The twelfth floor was mostly VIP wards, but they were rarely full—it was always quiet.
Song Ying’s office was at the far right. The door was half-open. Mia Moore led Charles Chase over, about to call out a greeting, when a voice drifted out from inside.
“Fu Sen, cut it out! I don’t want to date anyone right now.”
Mia Moore glanced at Charles Chase. He shrugged, clearly clueless. They didn’t want to eavesdrop, but then... well, when you think of certain people’s big brother—
Mia Moore dragged Charles Chase over, plastering herself against the wall, ears pricked up to listen.
Fu Sen was Xavier Fostern’s cousin—Mia Moore had heard Chi Chi talk about him before, and they’d even met once recently.
Charles Chase could only give in, watching her adorable, childlike antics and quietly joining her.
“Senior, is it that you don’t want to date, or do you already have someone in your heart?”
Fu Sen’s voice was cool, not quite the playful sharpness Mia Moore remembered from before.
“You’re always like this—bottling everything up, never letting it out. I don’t know whether to call you brave or just timid.”
“You do everything so well, but when it comes to relationships...”
“That’s enough, Fu Sen. I don’t like talking about my love life.”
Fu Sen let out a short laugh. The stubborn look on Song Ying’s face made his chest tighten.
“Bang bang bang!”
A knock on the door broke the tension. Mia Moore couldn’t resist anymore—enough eavesdropping. Hmph, how dare someone try to steal a girl right in front of her!
But who could Song Ying possibly have feelings for? Oh no, looks like Julian Jarvis’s wife is going to be snatched away!
“Song Ying-jie, I’m here!”
Mia Moore bustled in, pretending she’d just arrived.
“Hmm, you’re early today.” Song Ying smoothed her hair, checked the clock on the wall, and put on her professional face. “Let’s go. Time for your check-up.”
“Anything feeling off lately?”
“Nope, everything feels fine...”
The prenatal check went off without a hitch. Song Ying only reminded Mia Moore to rest well and get enough nutrition.
As they were leaving, Mia Moore turned back, “Song Ying-jie, you have to come to the wedding, okay?”
Song Ying smiled and nodded. “Of course I’ll come.”

After leaving the hospital, the two headed downstairs.
Once they were in the car, Mia Moore immediately pulled out her phone, ready to report this major scoop to Julian Jarvis.
Charles Chase leaned over to buckle her seatbelt. “You really think Song Ying likes your brother?”
“She did, at least back before he went abroad. I... actually saw one of her little notes tucked into a book.”
She remembered—after school each day, Song Ying would come over and watch her do her homework, only heading back home in time for dinner. Later, she’d left her notebook behind for Mia Moore to study. In it was a tiny slip of paper.
‘I’ve written my feelings into the wind. I hope the breeze on the riverside brings them to you—lets you know.’
Back then, Mia Moore was too naive to get it. That night, after dinner, Song Ying anxiously came back to fetch her notebook.
Then, the day her brother left for abroad, Song Ying had whispered her feelings at the foot of the stairs, but he hadn’t said a word before leaving. Hidden upstairs, Mia Moore heard Song Ying crying softly to herself.
“Charles Chase, I really think the person in Song Ying’s heart is my brother.”
Charles Chase turned the steering wheel, rounding a corner. “Maybe so. But that was years ago—they were just kids then.”
“Hmph! You’ve obviously never had a crush. When you fall for someone, it’s not that easy to forget.”
“Oh? So you’ve had a secret crush before, have you, my love?”
“...No, just read it about it in novels.”
“If you say so.”
“No! Take me to Julian Jarvis’s place. I have to tell him—I need answers!”
Unable to resist his wife, Charles Chase changed course, heading for Julian Jarvis’s apartment—a neighborhood not far from Shui Yun Jian.
When they arrived, Julian Jarvis was on the phone, talking about something work-related. Charles Chase and Mia Moore sat down on the sofa to wait.
Julian Jarvis chatted for a few more minutes before hanging up and looking over at them. “What’s this? Wedding jitters got you two invading my place?”
“...Bro, I have something huge to tell you today!” Mia Moore knelt up, leaning over the sofa back and peering at him.
Julian Jarvis chuckled, pinching her cheek. “Oh? What could be so huge? Don’t tell me you’re not getting married now?”
“...Hey! What’s with you and your nonsense?”
“Hey, I’ve been raising you for 23 years. My little sister’s about to be ‘hogged away’—can’t I be a little upset?” (Note: ‘hogged away’ is a playful way of saying someone’s daughter is being married off.)
Their parents were gone by the time Julian Jarvis was eight. All things considered, Mia Moore really was raised by her brother. Sure, the old housekeeper took care of them, but they were truly each other’s only family.
“Come on, Bro, stop kidding! Just because I’m getting married doesn’t mean I’ll disappear.” Mia Moore tugged on his arm. “And I really do have something big to tell you!”
“Just now, Charles Chase and I went to the hospital—to see Song Ying-jie! Do you even know what we saw?”
“Saw what?” Julian Jarvis asked casually, moving to pour them some water.
“I saw Xavier Fostern’s cousin—Fu Sen! He was confessing to Song Ying-jie! Confessing! Can you believe it?!”
Julian Jarvis’s hand stilled for a moment, causing the water in the glass pot to slosh gently.
Julian Jarvis curled his lips into a mild smile. “And then?”
“Well, she turned him down, of course. But it sounded like Song Ying-jie already likes someone else.”
“Bro, last time you talked to Song Ying-jie, did you say something? Do you know if she likes someone?”
Julian Jarvis put down the pot and carried a glass of water over. “No idea. Is this really what you came to tell me?”
Charles Chase handed Mia Moore her drink—she’d been talking nonstop, and barely taken a sip all day. Mia Moore took a tiny sip, then shook her head. “I’m asking if you like her or not! If you don’t make a move, she’ll be swept away by a young wolf!” (Note: ‘Little wolf’ is slang for a passionate, younger suitor.)
Julian Jarvis just smiled. “Getting married and already you have to meddle in your big brother’s love life? Charles Chase, can you rein her in?”
Charles Chase leaned back on the sofa, shaking his head. “No way—whatever Yao Yao says goes.”
“Figures, can’t count on you,” Julian Jarvis said as he sat down, adding, “But wait, isn’t Song Ying an OB-GYN? What were you doing at her office?”
Mia Moore looked askance at Charles Chase, her big eyes wide as she gestured at her belly: Didn’t you tell my brother about the baby?
Charles Chase looked lost, glancing at Julian Jarvis: No—I thought you had.
Mia Moore gave a sheepish laugh, slowly turning back to Julian Jarvis. “Actually, Bro, there’s something else I need to tell you.”
“Hm?”
“You’re going to be an uncle! We need to go check out the wedding venue too, so we’ll head out first!”
Even as Mia Moore spoke, she was halfway to the door. Charles Chase hurried to catch up so she wouldn’t rush off alone.
In an instant, only a stunned Julian Jarvis was left in the room.
“CHEN YUXIU!”
As soon as the elevator doors shut, the pair could still hear Julian Jarvis’s furious yell echoing up the hall.
