The delicate ring slid onto Mia Moore’s finger as Charles Chase pulled her into his arms, bowing his head to kiss her deeply.
Cheers of excitement erupted around them, everyone watching the young, beautiful couple share a passionate embrace.
The kiss was gentle and lingering. Charles Chase didn’t care at all that people were watching—in contrast, Mia Moore’s face was flushed crimson, her whole body feeling like it was on fire.
As soon as the kiss ended, she ducked into Charles Chase’s coat, tugging the lapels up to hide her face.
“Hey, there are so many people here! You... you’re so shameless!”
Charles Chase let out a low laugh, his chest trembling. “So what if I kiss my wife?”
Her small, pink fists landed lightly on his chest, feeling his heartbeat racing, powerful and quick.
Mia Moore looked up at him with a playful glint in her eyes, as if she’d just discovered something fun. She grinned, “Charles Chase, you’re nervous too!”
He admitted it easily, not at all embarrassed, “Yeah, I’m nervous. I’m worried my precious girl might turn me down.”
Looking at Mia Moore’s slightly misty eyes, he dipped down to kiss her again. “I’m sorry. I wanted to plan everything out better—I booked a hotel, ordered flowers, wanted to give you the most romantic proposal.”
“But I was afraid you’d have to wait too long, afraid that you’d really be mad at me and decide not to be with me.”
“If you’re not happy with it, we can do it all over again.”
Charles Chase didn’t want her to have any regrets. Proposing was an important milestone for every girl.
She was so moved that her eyes reddened again. She shook her head. "I loved it. This is the most perfect proposal there could be."
"Then from now on, let’s never be apart. Let’s stay together—always."
"Mm."
The two of them strolled along the lakeside for a while. A breeze began to pick up as Charles Chase held her hand, his heart overflowing with happiness as he furiously started planning their wedding.
"Baby, what kind of flowers do you like? Do you want a Chinese or Western-style wedding? Are there any designers you love for your dress or gown?"
"Should the hotel be my new one, or do you want something outdoors, maybe a beach ceremony?"
"Or do you want to get married in a different city—or even overseas?"
He looked so proud of himself, rambling in a way he never normally did, as if he wanted to announce to the whole world that he was about to get married.
Mia Moore didn’t answer his questions, instead suddenly stopping as something occurred to her.
"Charles Chase, we need to have the wedding soon."
"???" He’d thought he was the impatient one, but clearly this girl was even keener. He leaned in, studying her, “Can’t wait to be my bride, can you?”
"..."
She pinched his handsome face, her cheeks flushed as she cleared her throat. "Charles Chase, um, you... you’re not just going to be my husband. You’re going to be a dad."
???
For a second, Charles Chase thought he was hearing things. “What?”
Mia Moore stomped her foot, biting her lip. “Im telling you, you’re going to be a dad. If you don’t marry me soon, the baby will be all grown up!”
"...Cough, cough..." Charles Chase doubled over, coughing hard—he almost couldn’t catch his breath. When he looked up again, his face was lit with incredulous joy. “Yao Yao, you’re… you’re pregnant?”
"Yeah, a little over a month. The day I found out, well... that’s why..."
Charles Chase instantly scooped her into his arms, flooded with regret and guilt. “This was my fault. I should’ve figured it out, I wasn’t patient enough, I should have stayed with you.”
“You must’ve been so scared. It’s my fault—I should have proposed sooner, should have noticed sooner.”
Mia Moore shook her head in his arms. “No, I think everything’s perfect the way it is. It’s all turned out exactly as it should.”
