Coming downstairs, Tianshi was greeted by the sweet, comforting aroma of red date soy milk wafting through the air. Watching Fu Zhiyie bustling around in the kitchen, she felt a cozy warmth in her heart.
He was clearly the president of the Fu Group, yet here he was—a perfectly ordinary man, making breakfast for her, feeding the baby, and even changing diapers.
She never would have imagined that Fu Zhiyie would ever do these kinds of things.
He set the soy milk on the table to cool, then looked up to see the little one standing at the stairs.
Dressed in a white nightgown, her hair cascading softly down her back, she looked just like a sleepy little bunny who’d just woken up.
Smiling, he walked over and leaned down to plant a gentle kiss on her cheek. 'You're awake? Why didn't you wake me up? Are you feeling okay?'
Hearing that, Tianshi felt an urge to throw a little punch—asking after the fact, once all the mischief was already done.
She ignored Fu Zhiyie, coming slowly down the stairs. Bending over, she peeked into the stroller at their child. 'Little Rice Cake, you're awake! Did you cry at all?'
'No crying, very well behaved today,' Fu Zhiyie answered on behalf of their son, who couldn’t yet speak. 'Don’t worry about him, hurry and eat your breakfast.'
Tianshi wheeled the stroller over to the table, about to sit down, when she noticed a plush bunny-shaped peach cushion placed on her chair.
So annoying.
Her cheeks reddened as she sat down, nibbling quietly at her breakfast. 'I woke up late—Yaoyao said she wanted to go to the studio today, too.'
'Mm. Has she made up with Charles Chase?'
'Uh, I think I forgot to tell you… Yaoyao is pregnant. We're going to be aunt and uncle!'
'...Pregnant?'
Tianshi nodded, taking a bite of her fried egg. 'Yup! So whenever I see my brother, I get all antsy, haha. I guess I’m still not ready for this.'
Fu Zhiyie immediately understood. Huh, he felt a kindred sympathy—looks like Charles Chase’s got his work cut out for him now.
'They’ve only been together for three months—that is kind of quick. But I believe my brother will take responsibility.'
'Wow, my brother really is something. He’s already going to have a child so fast... Guess he really had his eye on Yaoyao from the start!'
Fu Zhiyie paused, halfway through picking up a slice of bread.
Wait, does our darling think I'm not impressive enough??
'Honey, honey.' Tianshi called out, noticing he was spacing out.
'Huh?'
'I still want to visit the studio this afternoon, keep Yaoyao company. She hasn’t told my brother yet, so you have to keep it a secret.'
'That’s an important thing—it's best to let Mia Moore tell him herself.'
Fu Zhiyie had no objections. But if his wife was going off to the studio and he would be stuck at home with only Little Dou Ding for company—well, that sounded dull. Might as well head to the office.
---
When she arrived at the studio, Mia Moore was chatting at the front desk with Strawberry and Bunny.
Turned out, when she’d been teaching as a substitute at the art college, Strawberry and Bunny had both been her students.
'Yaoyao.'
Tianshi saw Fu Zhiyie off and carried her baby inside.
'Tianshi!'
'Miss Ye!'
'You’re all here today?' she asked. The plan was for the two girls to come in only on opening day, but whenever they had free time, they’d sneak over, happily helping tidy up the place.
'Mm-hmm! No classes at uni today.'
She noticed the three girls exchanging conspiratorial grins, and Tianshi couldn’t help but feel bewildered.
'What’s up? Why are you all looking at me like that?'
Strawberry pulled out her phone, opening her Weibo feed. 'Miss Ye, look! President Foster’s confession to you—so romantic!'
Tianshi settled Little Rice Cake into the stroller and took the phone. Sure enough, it was the words from last night atop Dongzhu Tower, along with a photo of her and Fu Zhiyie having dinner at the restaurant.
'This...' Tianshi’s face went scarlet. 'I really didn’t know about it last night—it was all his doing.'
'Wow, that’s just too sweet!'
The two girls shook their tiny fists, looking absolutely ecstatic.
Tianshi tried to put on a stern face. 'You two skipping class and hanging around here—bet you're just trying to slack off! Get over there and practice your drawing.'
'Haha, okay, Miss Ye!'
They made silly faces at her and hurried off to the cabinet for art supplies.
Mia Moore was gently teasing Little Rice Cake in the stroller, shaking her head with a click of her tongue. 'Our Tianshi is just glowing with love these days.'
'...Hey, you’re joining in now? Seriously, netizens are wild—how did they figure it was us?'
'Of course! Didn’t you know? Your 'Magnolia Series' is really popular online.'
'Is that so?' Tianshi hadn’t thought about it. She rarely paid attention to online chatter; usually, she’d just post her art at Shuiyun Jian* and let Julian Jarvis handle any sales.
(Note: Shuiyun Jian is the online art market she uses.)
The two of them chatted a bit while Little Rice Cake, worried Mom might forget about him, started babbling cutely.
'Aww, Little Rice Cake! Godmom missed you so much!' Mia Moore cooed, leaning in to tease him.
'Just a second—weren’t you saying you were his aunt just days ago? How come you’re godmom now?'
Tianshi seized the chance to tease back, sidling over to sit next to her.
Mia Moore huffed in mock annoyance, refusing to admit defeat.
'My poor brother,' Tianshi sighed dramatically, 'He’s been asking me every day, 'Is Yaoyao still mad at me?' He can’t eat, can’t sleep, he’s miserable.'
She wasn’t really exaggerating—just last night her brother wouldn’t even come over for dinner.
'I never told him not to eat or sleep! Anyway, he’s the one who wanted space in the first place, hmmph.'
She heaved a small sigh. 'But maybe I should just be honest with him. I’ve been thinking... the baby’s not just mine, after all. He should know.'
Tianshi nodded in approval, her voice serious. 'Yaoyao, you know how my brother felt when he took you home to see Aunt Chen. And you two have been together so long, and you’re so good to each other. You can trust him.'
Mia Moore gazed at Little Rice Cake in the stroller and nodded gently.
'I’m not just standing up for him. After everything I’ve been through myself, I know how hard it is for two people to find love and be together. I just really hope you two find happiness.'
Mia Moore gave her a hug. 'I know.'
She’d been thinking things through these last few days. Though she wasn’t ready to be a mom just yet, seeing how adorable Little Rice Cake was made her feel she couldn’t bear to give up her own child.
'I’ll keep this baby—and I’ll tell him. If... he doesn’t want it, I’ll raise the baby on my own.'
Tianshi pinched her nose with a grin. 'My brother is going to be absolutely thrilled.'
Speak of the devil!
'Yaoyao,' a gentle voice came from the entrance. Charles Chase had been standing outside for a while, watching through the glass wall, not wanting to interrupt the conversation.
He hadn’t seen his girl for two days—she looked a little pale, probably hadn’t been sleeping well.
Mia Moore looked up when she heard his voice, heart unexpectedly skipping a beat at the sight of him standing by the door.
'You… what are you doing here?'
Before leaving, Tianshi had called Charles Chase to tell him Mia Moore would be at the studio today. The scenery near Donghu Lake was beautiful, and the weather was especially sunny.
A perfect day for lovers.
'Let's take a walk.'
