Olivia Young, don’t think you’re so clever at playing with people’s hearts.
Saying something like that at a moment like this—trying to make him turn back, step into her gentle trap, and from then on become yet another man smitten at her feet. As if! He’s not that kind of man.
"Next time."
Frederick Fairfax practically fled the master bedroom, closing the door behind him. He stood outside, taking a deep breath. Tonight had taken a turn he never expected.
Losing control of Olivia Young was par for the course—he couldn’t even control his own heart. He’d even told everyone about the first time he saw her. After all these years, he could still clearly recall Olivia Young at age five, wearing a white princess dress and a crown, carried in by Lucas Young. Having too good a memory really wasn’t his fault.
The next morning.
When Frederick Fairfax left, he quietly opened the master bedroom door to take a peek inside. Olivia Young was sound asleep. Looks like that maternity pillow is working.
Wait—her leg!
Leg, what are you doing? How did it get inside?
Realizing he was already standing right by the bed, Frederick Fairfax found himself quietly admiring Olivia Young’s sleeping face. She looked so sweet when asleep, not the least bit interested in teasing him like she did when awake. Fair-skinned and delicate, how could someone look so good even while sleeping?
He gently brushed a stray lock of hair from her cheek, leaned in ever so slightly—then caught himself. Olivia Young might be a little rogue, but was he about to turn into a little rogue too? Snap out of it!
He bolted from the room like nothing had happened.
Less than an hour later, Frederick Fairfax was back. Olivia Young was having breakfast.
"You don’t look so good. What happened?"
"Hannah Xu is missing. She’s supposed to film her scenes today." Frederick Fairfax sat across from her, face clouded, and picked up a steamed dumpling.
So it’s true—actors really do sometimes just vanish mid-shoot! How willful.
He’d barely finished the dumpling when his phone rang.
The director’s irritated voice came through loud and clear: "Hannah Xu’s out! She’s quitting showbiz, says she’s heading home for an arranged marriage." Olivia Young could hear every word.
She opened Weibo—sure enough, Hannah Xu had posted: "Bored. I’m done, everyone." Fans were already speculating about the real meaning.
Moments later, the news hit them: it was true. Apparently, Frederick Fairfax’s recent marriage announcement had hit Hannah Xu hard.
"Let me recommend someone." Olivia Young pulled out a photo of Bella Snow. "What about her?"
"She’s your friend," he replied.
"How’d you know? Yep, she’s my bestie—my soul sister! We were just chatting, and she’s already nearby. Getting her here will take less than an hour." She saw his hesitation. "You ate my dumpling, now you have to listen to me."
Frederick Fairfax looked shocked. All this… over a single dumpling?
"Yours? The hotel delivered it—guess who ordered that for you! Olivia Young—" Frederick Fairfax rubbed his temples. "Fine, let her come. But if she doesn’t fit the role, you two both pack your bags!"
Olivia Young messaged Bella Snow while asking, "Oh, by the way… has Tara Young arrived yet?"
"Why? You want to see him? Are you his fan?" Frederick Fairfax didn’t realize how sharp his tone was getting. Why did he care so much, anyway?
Who Olivia Young idolized shouldn’t matter to him.
Olivia Young kept chatting, oblivious to his glare. "I’m kind of curious. I want to meet the man my best friend’s crushing on."
With two movie heartthrobs shooting a film together, tickets were sure to sell out on looks alone. Yeah, Tara Young—if he wanted, Frederick Fairfax could replace him at any moment. After all, Frederick Fairfax was the film’s biggest investor, producer, and backer.
"If you want Tara Young’s autograph, beg me, and I’ll get you a few." Frederick Fairfax lounged lazily. "Beg me."
"Nope," Olivia Young smiled, "since you’re my husband, if I ask him for a signed photo, there’s no way he’d refuse."
Frederick Fairfax snorted. "You really know how to use borrowed authority."
Olivia Young set down her chopsticks. "But if you want me to beg, how about this—will you sign some photos for me?"
"I don’t have any." Carrying around signed headshots wasn’t his style. He just wanted to live a different life for a while—a little adventure on the side, and maybe earn some extra cash.
"Then, if I get some photos printed, would you sign them for me?"
"I’ll think about it."
"Please, please, please! If you don’t agree, I’ll kiss you while you’re sleeping, undress you, grope your abs, and thoroughly ruin your innocence!" Olivia Young declared, her face lighting up with what she thought was a wicked grin.
To Frederick Fairfax, she just looked silly and harmless. There was nothing intimidating—just a pampered heiress trying to act tough, threatening the real bad guy, only to get thoroughly outplayed in the end.
"Oh, I’m scared," Frederick Fairfax replied with mock bravado. "But do you know how busy I am? Where would I even find time to sign anything?"
"Could’ve fooled me. You’ve got time to chat, don’t you?" Olivia Young replied coolly, resuming her breakfast. As a pregnant woman, small frequent meals were best, and she was still hungry.
Just like that, she managed to annoy Frederick Fairfax enough to drive him off. A few minutes later, he came out of his study, tossed her several signed photos, and left without a word.
A few weren’t nearly enough! She wanted to hand them out as prizes to her employees. Her husband needed to sign a lot more!
An hour later, the doorbell rang. Olivia Young eagerly went to answer.
It wasn’t Bella Snow, though. It was Liam Rivers.
Liam Rivers, in his forties but looking barely thirty, wore his years well—showing that good luck really does keep a person young.
He checked the room number on the door. "Mrs. Feng? Hello, I’m Liam Rivers. I’m here to see Jingche."
"Please wait," Olivia Young replied. She didn’t invite him inside, leaving him standing in the hallway. A cheating man didn’t deserve to step into her room and risk bringing bad luck with him.
She knocked on the study. "Husband~"
"No kisses!"
Olivia Young had just opened the door: "What did you say?"
"No signatures! You heard wrong, I said no signatures!"
Frederick Fairfax pretended to look busy with some agreements. Whenever he was embarrassed, he acted like there was urgent work to do. He definitely didn’t want to admit he’d gotten distracted, his mind wandering to memories of Olivia Young kissing him last night.
"Liam Rivers is here to see you."
Olivia Young let him off the hook. "You two talk, I’m heading out."
"Where are you going?"
"Snow’s on her way—I’ll go downstairs to find her."
Frederick Fairfax stood up, only relaxing once he saw her bundle up warmly before walking out. When Olivia Young left, Liam Rivers finally entered.
"That was your wife, wasn’t it? The two of you are a great match." Liam Rivers made himself comfortable.
Spotting a red scarf beside him, Liam Rivers reached for it, but Frederick Fairfax snatched it away with a frown. That was Olivia Young’s.
"Sit over there."
He gestured to an armchair that Olivia Young had never used. Frederick Fairfax had once called Liam Rivers his teacher, but his attitude today was downright frosty.
Liam Rivers took the hint, moving to a different seat. Frederick Fairfax carefully placed the red scarf on his lap, smoothing it out bit by bit. "What do you want?"
Liam Rivers said, "Jingche, I think there’s been some misunderstanding. We’ve always worked well together. I had to come in person to explain why I was suddenly replaced from the film."
