Frederick Fairfax wrapped his arm around her waist, nose tip brushing against hers as he came to a stop.
That scream sounded awfully familiar.
Was he so sick from vomiting he'd started hallucinating?
“Pregnant women shouldn’t be startled,” Olivia Young gasped for breath, clinging to his shirt.
“Sorry.”
He mouthed an apology, but his arms didn't budge. His obsidian eyes locked on her.
One second. Two seconds. Three...
Suddenly, he raised a hand, as if to shield Olivia Young’s eyes.
Naturally, Olivia Young pushed him away, making polite conversation, “Rough day on set?”
“Actually, it went well.”
Aside from his own physical misery, anyway.
Olivia Young sat down on the couch. “Then what was that performance about, just now?”
“You said you wanted to visit the set, so I came to pick you up.”
And, incidentally, to test if he’d feel better with her around.
“Is your conscience that kind?”
No matter how she looked at it, Olivia Young felt there was something fishy here.
Frederick Fairfax could hardly wish for her to be farther from his life.
And yet, now he was volunteering to take her to the set?
The wine’s not the reason the drunk strolled in.*
(He clearly had an ulterior motive.)
Whatever. She’d go have some fun at the set.
Frederick Fairfax settled into a single armchair, tugging at his collar, eyes shadowed and unreadable.
He still hadn't quite come out of the brief cloud of doubt just now.
“Frederick Fairfax, did you know Liam Rivers’s wife is preparing to file for divorce?”
Smooth topic shift.
“No idea. Getting divorced doesn’t ruin his image on camera.”
“Divorce isn’t the issue, but what about cheating? What if there’s a mistress? As a friend, just a piece of advice—maybe don’t cast him. If this blows up, it could hurt your movie.”
Olivia Young suggested the couple should try to settle things privately.
It would be better for them both.
Right now, Liam Rivers was giving Shane Ling the cold shoulder—wouldn’t see her, wouldn’t answer her calls.
He figured, after so many years facing hardships together, Shane Ling wouldn’t bring their marital issues into the open. Wouldn’t destroy his reputation.
Otherwise, what would become of their two kids? They’d never lift their heads again.
He thought he could control Shane Ling by holding the kids over her.
“Cheating? No way, they’re so affectionate!”
Frederick Fairfax’s attention snapped away from his own worries. “My teacher would never cheat! Olivia Young, where did you hear that?”
Olivia Young smiled lightly. “His wife asked me for advice.”
Just consultation—no lawsuit yet.
Frederick Fairfax’s worldview caved in.
In his mind, Liam Rivers was a devoted husband, a good father, a man of impeccable fame in the industry.
He’d seemed… nearly perfect.
Cheated? Really?
Olivia Young had no reason to lie. So it had to be true.
Frederick Fairfax couldn’t hold his expression together.
He was about to lose it.
Olivia Young patted his shoulder gently as she walked over, then, for good measure, ruffled his rarely-seen pink hair!
Wow! Still so soft to the touch.
His hair was almost criminally nice.
Frederick Fairfax, lost in his own collapse, let her knead away, gradually burying his head into her embrace.
How could he cheat?
He called his wife from the set all the time.
But just because his phone contact said 'wife' didn’t mean it truly was.
“Good boy, it’s okay, really, don’t learn from him. His character’s rotten. Stay away from that path! Cheating in showbiz is the end of you,” Olivia Young soothed him. “You’re a good boy.”
Frederick Fairfax was mid-sulk when something felt off.
Olivia Young’s tone—was she coaxing a kindergartener?
“I… I’m not that devastated.” Frederick Fairfax looked up. “I’m just a little sad.”
Olivia Young discreetly brushed off a strand of pink hair on her fingers. “Mm, I get it. Just let me comfort you a bit—it won’t count as breaching the agreement.”
Frederick Fairfax choked up. “Then… can I hug you…?”
“Of course!”
Olivia Young settled herself in his lap without a care. “Baby, do you miss Dad’s hugs? Dad’s back—let him pet you.”
Frederick Fairfax’s hand rested on her pregnant belly.
I must be crazy!
Olivia Young just had to suggest it, and he obeyed without a second thought?
Why was he so obedient?
“Want to listen to the baby’s heartbeat?”
Wait, you can do that?
The tool was right on the coffee table—Frederick Fairfax only had to reach out for it.
He fiddled with it, not sure how it worked.
Olivia Young lifted her shirt, smoothing coupling gel onto her belly, then moved the fetal heart monitor around until a green heart popped up on the screen—there it was: the baby’s heartbeat.
Incredible.
“Is the baby’s heartbeat supposed to be that fast?”
Over one-fifty!
“That’s normal,” Olivia Young relaxed against his chest. “The baby’s heart is still developing, so a fast beat keeps the blood flowing and the oxygen coming.”
Frederick Fairfax, when you find out the truth one day, you’d better not blame me.
Everything you’re supposed to experience during pregnancy—I’m making sure you do.
“You used to be slim, didn’t you?”
Frederick Fairfax gently pulled her shirt back down. “Pregnancy is tough.”
“Oh, hubby’s feeling all sympathetic now~” Olivia Young leaned in, soft lips brushing his cheek. “Then could you help me apply belly oil next time? I really don’t want stretch marks.”
“M-me?”
“You don’t want to? But you’re my only husband. If only I had two—one could go out and make money, and the other could keep me company at home.” Olivia Young stroked her belly. “Baby, if your dad were still around, he’d help me…”
He’d never met a woman so shameless.
Is it her beauty that makes her so fearless?
Or was it having Grandfather’s backing that made her dare act up like this?
“I’m pretty busy. I’m not home every day.”
“But when you are, you’ll help me, right?”
“Fine! Fine!” Frederick Fairfax ground his teeth. “Olivia Young, sorry to break it to you, but you only get one husband—me.”
Heh. One will do.
If she really got two, this novel wouldn’t see the light of day!
Olivia Young sighed. “You’re not much use as a husband—not even a single kiss.”
“Olivia Young, the prenup!”
“Is it really the prenuptial agreement, or is it because there’s someone else in your heart?” Olivia Young teased, “Grandfather says you’ve never dated, but you’ve got plenty of admirers. Hubby, you’re just too popular—I feel so insecure.”
It’s a agreement marriage!
What’s there to feel insecure about?
“Relax, I keep myself in check.”
“Really?” Olivia Young drawled, “Hubby, you’re not still a virgin, are you?”
“I am NOT!!!”
He wasn’t.
Truly wasn’t!
Frederick Fairfax’s ears lit up red.
“Pregnant women are just different, huh? Go through something once, and suddenly you dare say anything,” Frederick Fairfax muttered, picking her up.
Olivia Young wrapped her arms around his neck with a smirk. “You’re not a virgin, you’ve got experience—so what’s there to blush about? How did it feel with the others?”
“Olivia Young, this really isn’t your business.”
Wasn’t it?
That night, he’d been awkward at first, but then insisted on asking if she felt good.
She wouldn’t answer and that annoyed him.
He still hadn’t recognized her voice then—probably because he’d been drinking, talking hoarse, a little breathless.
It had sounded extra sexy.
Frederick Fairfax laid her down on the bed, glaring fiercely. “I don’t pry into your affairs—so don’t pry into mine.”
