When Yancy Shaw returned to Lanyue Residence, Mrs. Chen had already left, and Lauren Shaw was napping curled up on the sofa.
Hearing the door, she lifted her sleepy head and looked at Yancy Shaw, a smile blossoming on her face. "You're back."
She got up to greet him, and Yancy Shaw quickly strode over and scooped her into his arms.
"You fell asleep?" he asked softly, gazing down at her sleep-filled eyes, his demeanor gentle.
"Yeah, I was a bit tired." Lauren Shaw snuggled against his chest like a little rabbit, her arms naturally circling his neck as she rubbed her face against him.
Her keen nose caught the faint scent of perfume on his body, though Yancy Shaw himself seemed unaware.
"Let me take you to bed."
"Where did you go just now?" Lauren Shaw asked, trying to sound casual.
Yancy Shaw carried her into the bedroom, gently laying her down on the bed. At her question, he lowered his eyes, hiding his emotions, and replied softly, "I had to handle some things."
Lauren Shaw sniffed at him again. "Why do you have perfume on you?"
She believed that in a marriage, no questions should be left unanswered overnight—otherwise she'd never fall asleep.
Yancy Shaw frowned, remaining silent.
Sensing his awkwardness, Lauren Shaw soothed him gently, "If you don’t want to say, it’s okay. I trust you."
She truly believed Yancy Shaw would never do anything to hurt her.
Her soft voice brought color back to Yancy Shaw’s eyes. Of course—his sweetheart was always so perceptive, nothing could be kept from her.
He drew her close, holding her tightly. Finally, he revealed the truth. "Shengsheng, I went to meet the person who tried to hurt you."
"The person who tried to hurt me?" Lauren Shaw looked at him, puzzled, not quite grasping his meaning.
Yancy Shaw nodded. "It was Qin Jia."
That was truly unexpected. Lauren Shaw never would have thought Qin Jia could do something so vile.
"The person who rammed your car was one of her fans. She deliberately manipulated him and sent him after you."
She’d assumed the attacker suffered from some mental illness, but it turned out the whole thing was engineered by Qin Jia.
"Where is she now?"
"I’ve already asked Yuan Ran to take her to the police station." Naturally, he didn't mention any of his threats to Qin Jia.
Lauren Shaw couldn’t help but sigh.
Seeing her silent, Yancy Shaw leaned down and kissed her cheek. "Are you angry with me?"
He was afraid she'd be upset that he’d hidden things from her.
Lauren Shaw shook her head. She wasn’t angry.
"Sigh, I really thought it was just an accident. I never expected someone would actually want me dead." Luckily, Chris Cooper was an expert driver and swerved just in time—otherwise, she might be lying in a hospital bed now.
"She’ll face the full weight of the law," Yancy Shaw’s voice grew cold, his eyes steely.
Lauren Shaw looked at him teasingly. "It's all my fault for having such a charming husband—someone couldn’t win your heart and ended up hating me for it."
She had a rough idea why Qin Jia would go so far, but she never thought Qin Jia would turn out to be so obsessive—and so reckless.
The smuggling case had now been thoroughly investigated. It had nothing to do with Yvonne Sung, who was released without charge.
Upon learning that Mandy Snow was involved in Eva Snow’s death, Xue Qiang demanded the police inflict the severest penalty possible.
On the day the case went to court, Mo Qinglin testified as a witness.
As soon as Mo Fan saw him, shock and fury filled his eyes.
Mo Qinglin sat in the witness stand, staring at him with a half-smile.
All the evidence pointed directly to Mo Fan. There was no way to deny it, and in the end, the judge pronounced the verdict.
Mo Fan was sentenced to death.
His assistant Wu Wei also received the death penalty.
Mandy Snow was sentenced to ten years in prison.
The day before Mo Fan’s execution, Mo Qinglin went to see him.
But this time, Mo Qinglin stood before him openly and confidently, dressed to the nines, his spirit unbroken.
Mo Fan’s gaze was cold and menacing. "So your legs were already healed all along?"
Mo Qinglin glanced at his own legs, his tone mocking. "That’s right. My legs have been fine for a long time. Disappointed, aren’t you, Uncle?"
"Hmph. I never thought I’d fall into your hands."
Wearing prison garb, Mo Fan had lost all his previous radiance, now exuding little more than defeat.
Mo Qinglin’s face was full of hatred. "I’ve known for a long time you were the mastermind behind that car accident all those years ago. Heaven kept me alive so that I could take revenge and make you pay."
His eyes were bloodshot as Mo Fan sneered. "So, are you satisfied now?"
But Mo Qinglin wasn’t moved. He was someone who lived in the light, destined for a better life.
"This is your punishment. And don’t worry—your daughter will know what you did. Even after you’re gone, there will be no one to mourn you, no one to remember you."
Adjusting his cuffs, Mo Qinglin stared at Mo Fan with undisguised scorn.
Suddenly, Mo Fan broke and started roaring, "Mo Qinglin! Don’t get cocky! Even if I die, I’ll haunt you from the grave!"
He completely lost control. Several guards rushed in and dragged him out of the visiting room.
Mo Qinglin watched him coldly, his smile shifting from mockery to a tinge of bitterness.
His enemy was finally defeated—yet he felt no joy, only a lingering sadness.
So much had changed over the years. The people who mattered to him were already gone; what did revenge really matter now? He felt like a walking corpse, a body with no soul.
Outside the detention center, Yancy Shaw’s car was waiting. He honked as he saw Mo Qinglin.
Mo Qinglin smiled faintly and walked over, tapping on the driver’s window.
"What a gentlemanly mood you’re in today—came to pick me up yourself?"
"Don’t flatter yourself. It’s just a coincidence," Yancy Shaw replied, tone cool and detached.
He really only showed up to check on a certain someone.
Mo Qinglin chuckled. "I heard Miss Qin was sent to jail by you?"
Yancy Shaw shot him a cold look—no denying, Mo Qinglin sure knew how to get under people’s skin.
"Don’t get the wrong idea. I’m only asking. After all, I did know her once." Back then, all he wanted was to get close to Yancy Shaw. The only way was through Lauren Shaw, that’s why he contacted Qin Jia—but he never got too involved with her.
That woman was a little too obsessive, especially about the things she wanted.
Yancy Shaw glanced sideways at him. "I heard the Mo family took the news about Mo Fan hard. Aren’t you headed back to Huadong to keep things together?"
Mo Qinglin waved it off. "What’s to worry about? My sister is there; she can handle it just fine."
He'd never cared that much about the family business.
Yancy Shaw gave a dismissive grunt and rolled up the window, stamping on the accelerator until the car vanished around the corner.
Mo Qinglin, left in the dust, couldn’t help but laugh softly. "Still holding a grudge about the time I tried to get close to Lauren Shaw, aren’t you, Mr. Shen?"
