A call came through on the phone lying on the table—it was Assistant Cui, asking her to come to the company for a meeting that afternoon.
Yancy Shaw drove her to the company and waited for her downstairs.
As Lauren Shaw entered the meeting room, the noisy atmosphere instantly went still at her arrival.
Everyone turned in unison to look at her.
She pulled out a chair and sat down. Assistant Cui nodded to her politely.
He switched on the screen, and a pre-recorded video began to play.
The video showed Yvonne Sung, his face bruised and swollen, projected on the big screen.
It turned out he had recorded this video under pressure, admitting responsibility for the plagiarism incident and apologizing to Lauren Shaw.
When the video finished, everyone glanced at Lauren Shaw.
The plagiarism scandal had reached its conclusion. Those in the company who wanted her gone were now silent.
Bryce Shaw looked around at the group. “Does anyone have anything else to say?”
Not a sound was heard in the meeting room.
Bryce Shaw turned to Lauren Shaw. “Designer Li, I hope to see even better work from you in the future.”
In just a few words, Bryce Shaw’s position was made perfectly clear.
Lauren Shaw broke into a smile, ignoring the look Mandy Snow shot her from across the table.
“Of course, President Shen. I won’t let you down.”
The whole point of the meeting was to clear Lauren Shaw’s name. Once adjourned, Mandy Snow snorted, "After all that, you actually managed to walk away unscathed. Designer Li, you really do have quite the skills."
Lauren Shaw raised an eyebrow at her. "I wouldn't call it skill—when you're innocent, time always tells the truth."
Mandy Snow sneered, "You can thank your good choice of husband. Otherwise, do you really think you'd be this lucky?"
"So what, Director Xue? Are you saying your own husband isn’t any good?"
Mandy Snow was momentarily lost for words but couldn’t hold back her irritation.
A glimmer of amusement flashed in her eyes as she said, "You still don’t know what kind of man you’re really sleeping next to, do you?" Noting the confusion on Lauren Shaw’s face, she continued with a smirk, "Sometimes, what you see isn’t necessarily the truth."
Lauren Shaw’s expression remained calm. "So what? Are you trying to warn me, or just hope I’ll doubt a man who always puts me first?"
Hmph—if Mandy Snow wanted to drive a wedge between her and Yancy Shaw, she could keep dreaming.
Mandy Snow said no more, just picked up her folder and left the meeting room.
Lauren Shaw was left thoughtful.
After leaving the company, she saw Yancy Shaw’s car parked not far away. He leaned casually against the car, phone in hand, taking a call.
His tall figure and innate air of nobility made it hard to look away.
Mandy Snow’s words flashed through her mind. Maybe to others, Yancy Shaw was a gentleman, or maybe he was ruthless—but none of that mattered. To her, he was just Yancy Shaw, her husband. No matter what kind of man he was, she liked him just as he was.
In her heart, she’d chosen him, and that was all that mattered.
Her eyes shimmered, and she strode straight toward him.
Seeing her approach, Yancy Shaw ended his call, the corners of his mouth lifting into a smile as he moved to open the front passenger door for her.
"All done?"
"Mm, just a meeting to clear things up."
Lauren Shaw slipped into the passenger seat and leaned back, finally able to relax after tense days plagued by scandal. Now that everything was sorted, she felt an unexpected wave of drowsiness.
Noticing her exhaustion, Yancy Shaw asked, "Tired?"
"A little."
Even if she tried not to show it, he could tell she had something on her mind.
After a moment’s thought, Lauren Shaw decided to tell him what Mandy Snow had said. She didn’t like letting doubts fester; left unchecked, they turned to suspicion. As long as he explained, she would believe him.
"What did Mandy Snow mean just now?" Lauren Shaw asked.
"It’s probably about Eva Snow," Yancy Shaw replied calmly.
"Eva Snow?" Lauren Shaw was puzzled. What could have happened? Since leaving the Lawrence family’s place last time, she hadn’t seen Eva Snow again.
"I had people send her to the F country overnight."
Sent abroad? Was this related to Mandy Snow’s snide remarks? Why would she say that?
"There’s constant turmoil and unrest in F country. I figured she could use the experience—better that than staying here making waves in Ancheng."
Not a bad move, Lauren Shaw thought with a smile; she liked how he played his cards.
"Won’t the Snow family just bring her home when they find out?"
"Unless I tell them, they’ll never find out where she is." Yancy Shaw’s tone was unfazed, as if this had nothing to do with him.
Eva Snow’s parents panicked like ants on a hot pan, desperate to find her but with no news at all.
Sean Snow, exasperated, had warned Eva Snow not to dig her own grave—now she’d gotten herself into a mess, no one knew where she even was.
But Sean Snow also knew Yancy Shaw was measured in what he did—he just wanted to teach Eva Snow a lesson, to toughen her up and make her stop targeting Lauren Shaw. He’d let her return after a while.
For now, though, the Snow family was in chaos.
Fang Lin had been crying from the bedroom to the living room, and then all the way to Old Master Xue’s study.
Unable to bear it any longer, Old Master Xue had gone back to the countryside for some peace and quiet.
With nowhere else to turn, Fang Lin sought out Mandy Snow.
"Mandy, you have to help Yueyue. She’s my only daughter—if anything happens to her, I can’t go on!"
Watching her sister-in-law who only knew how to cry, Mandy Snow could only rub her forehead.
Yancy Shaw was notorious for being cold-hearted. If he made up his mind about something, no one could change it.
All Mandy Snow could do was promise to ask Yancy Shaw about Eva Snow, and only then did Fang Lin finally go home.
Honestly, Eva Snow deserved what she got. If it weren’t for her, none of this mess would’ve happened. She was a troublemaker, and a lesson was exactly what she needed.
"Where are we going?"
Noticing that they weren’t heading home, Lauren Shaw asked.
"The director just called. I need to stop by the hospital—you can wait for me in the car for a bit."
When they arrived at the hospital, Lauren Shaw stayed in the car.
A commotion by the hospital entrance caught her attention.
Yana Quinn never imagined that a single article would leave her in such dire straits.
She hadn’t dared to look at her phone since the internet turned against her. Yvonne Sung even blamed her for posting it in the first place.
But hadn’t he agreed to it at the time? Now, it was all her fault.
Zoe Carter showed her no kindness, even cursing her as a jinx. If she hadn’t published the article, Yvonne Sung wouldn’t be getting attacked online.
To make matters worse, her parents, living overseas, had heard about her engagement to Yvonne Sung back home and were now here to find her.
"Yanyan, now that you’ve found someone powerful to back you, you don't want to recognize us anymore? Well, let me tell you, that’s just not gonna happen." Qiao Mingfu’s face was twisted with anger as he glared at her.
Lauren Shaw watched the scene unfold with little surprise.
Yancy Shaw had told her about Yana Quinn’s past—her family used to be wealthy, running a company abroad. After college, she should have had a bright future. But her father’s gambling lost them everything, and eventually bankrupted the company. Yana Quinn’s years abroad were rough.
After returning, she entered the entertainment industry, but every penny she earned was snatched away by her parents.
Her father even tried to force her to marry a local tycoon—someone a full decade older than he was.
