Night had fallen. Yancy Shaw gazed at the delicate little face on his screen; there was a sparkle in her eyes, as if she was distressed for him.
The corners of his lips lifted slightly. His little bunny was always so gentle and considerate—she could effortlessly put him in a good mood.
“I’m fine. You’re coming back tomorrow, so I’ll just go to bed early,” Yancy Shaw said, his gaze carrying a hint of something deeper.
Lauren Shaw suddenly felt her thoughts wandering off again. This fox—it was always him who led her mind astray, then looked at her with that serious face, as if she was the unruly little vixen making things hard for him.
His scorching gaze made her a bit embarrassed. "You really should sleep tonight, you know."
“Shengsheng, you don’t have to worry about my sleep. What I want is to keep you company tonight.” His tone was soft as always. There were no flowery words, just a simple: "I want to spend tonight with you."
His project wasn’t finished; there was no chance of sleeping tonight. But just seeing her—even that was enough for him.
“I’m about to start working. Are you sure you want to just watch me like this?” Looking at him through the phone screen, she missed him so much. She wanted to fall asleep in his arms…
Ahem, what are you thinking, Lauren Shaw? Focus!
Yancy Shaw nodded. "Just watching you while you work is enough for me."
Back when his thoughts were tangled, he’d somehow end up waiting near her campus, even knowing he might not actually see her—he just wanted to be a little closer.
Just like now. Even though she wasn’t by his side, seeing her on the screen made him feel at peace.
Lauren Shaw propped the phone up on her desk, adjusting it so he could see her clearly.
She worked busily, chatting idly with him as she went. At some point, he stopped replying.
Turning to check her phone, she found he’d fallen asleep.
His eyes were closed, his sleeping face tranquil and softer than usual, lacking his usual strictness—so gentle she couldn’t look away.
Lauren Shaw took a screenshot of his sleeping face and saved it.
The 24-hour recording period ended.
Soon, the designers’ creations would be unveiled.
Right now, the artists and their partners were changing into their runway outfits. The fashion show was about to begin.
Backstage, the designers waited nervously.
At the very back of the runway seating, two men sat together.
It was dimly lit in the back rows, so nobody paid attention to them.
The two men had similarly defined features. Their refined gestures and bearing gave off an air of innate nobility.
As soon as the music started, the entire venue buzzed with nervous excitement.
Li Qiuchi took the stage in a black swan dress. The black-and-white design, coupled with her aloof style, seemed tailor-made for her.
On stage, she was like a swan—the most dazzling presence in the room.
Bryce Shaw grinned, glancing at the man beside him. "Look, the most beautiful one up there is your future sister-in-law."
Yancy Shaw didn’t look at him. His gaze lingered on Li Qiuchi—but it was the dress he was watching.
He mumbled under his breath, "That dress was designed by my wife."
Bryce Shaw: ...
So childish. The moment he praised his goddess, this guy couldn’t wait to brag about his own. Typical brothers—some habits, it seemed, were born, not learned.
Bryce Shaw retorted, "Only my goddess could pull off a dress your wife designed. Try putting it on someone else."
"You want to try it yourself?" Yancy Shaw replied coolly.
Bryce Shaw: Are you serious? Have you no shame?
The two brothers had argued since they were kids. Yancy Shaw was sharp-tongued and devious, never willing to let anything slide—a single sentence from him could leave one speechless.
Bryce Shaw hesitated, then let it go. He was the older brother—he could afford to give in.
The show finished. Now it was time for the judges’ scores.
"Who do you think will win?" Bryce Shaw asked lazily, surveying the tense mood onstage.
The designers were stepping up to stand by their partners.
Yancy Shaw glanced at him, lost in thought.
Hastily, Bryce Shaw explained, "Don’t worry, there’s no backstage deal here. This competition is all about skill—I can’t stand anyone who tries to win through connections."
He’d once considered helping Lauren Shaw, but quickly realized he didn’t need to—her talent in design was enough to stand out among the crowd. She didn’t need his help at all.
The results were announced. When the champion was called, everyone looked at Lauren Shaw.
Her creation outshone all others—no one doubted she deserved first prize.
Bryce Shaw looked at her, sighing. "Looks like your little sister-in-law really is something. Congratulations to her, and to the partnership with Shengmei."
“She’s always been exceptional.”
Yancy Shaw showered her with praise, not stingy in the least.
Bryce Shaw shot him a look of mock-disgust. "You really are obsessed with showing off your wife, aren’t you?"
After the competition, Lauren Shaw caught sight of Yancy Shaw and, ignoring all the onlookers, threw herself into his arms.
"Why didn’t you tell me you were coming? Don’t you have work today?" She’d missed him so much after just one night apart.
Yancy Shaw chuckled softly, "You had a competition today. I just wanted to come see you."
People were starting to leave, but a few still lingered in the hall.
Eva Snow stood just a few meters away. Seeing them holding each other so intimately, her hands tightened into fists, jealousy almost bursting from inside.
Yana Quinn, beside her, couldn’t help muttering, “Shameless.”
“Who are you calling shameless?” Eva Snow shot her a cold stare, full of warning.
Yana Quinn immediately backtracked, “I didn’t mean you, Miss Xue. I meant them.”
“Them? Do you think he’s someone you can talk about like that?” Eva Snow’s voice grew icy, making Yana Quinn anxious.
She was just a minor celebrity, while Eva Snow was from the influential Snow family. If she offended her, the consequences could be dire.
With that in mind, she quickly changed her tone and forced a smile, “I misspoke. Don’t be mad, Miss Xue.”
Eva Snow glared at her, and only after seeing Yancy Shaw leading Lauren Shaw away did she finally look away.
Yana Quinn caught the implication. So, Eva Snow liked Yancy Shaw. Ha! Acting all high and mighty, but so jealous over a married man.
Hand-in-hand, Yancy Shaw led Lauren Shaw to the parking lot.
Once in the car, he pinned her to the passenger seat and kissed her deeply before finally starting the engine.
Looking at the man, hungry as a wolf, Lauren Shaw couldn’t help laughing. "Dr. Shen, do you know what you look like right now?"
Driving, Yancy Shaw remained unfazed. “Shengsheng, if you keep teasing me, I might just settle all the scores from these past few days with you tonight.”
