Eva Snow drove to the hospital where Yancy Shaw worked.
She’d only heard from Mandy Snow that he worked at this hospital, but she had no idea which office he used.
She’d already been blocked from contacting him, but now she was desperate to deliver her news.
He needed to know that Lauren Shaw was once engaged to someone else.
Besides, last time, she’d even seen her having dinner with another man—surely that was enough to make Yancy Shaw furious.
After searching all around, Eva Snow still didn’t spot him. She pushed open a random office door and saw a doctor inside. 'Which office is Yancy Shaw’s?' she asked.
Mona Lane, in the middle of examining a patient’s eyes, looked up. 'Why do you want to find him?'
Mona Lane couldn’t stand people coming for Yancy Shaw—especially when it was a woman like this, barging in, all attitude and no manners.
Sensing the unwelcoming tone, Eva Snow didn’t bother with politeness herself. 'None of your business. Just tell me which office he’s in.'
Maybe she was used to swaggering around, expecting the world to cater to her.
But Mona Lane was having none of it.
'Why should I tell you? Who knows what you’re up to?'
'You—' Eva Snow fumed, but this was a hospital, not the place to fight it out—or she would’ve given that woman a piece of her mind.
Far off, Henry Mills caught sight of her. Reacting fast, he ducked behind a pillar, keeping watch as Eva Snow stalked around, office by office.
'What’s this diva doing here at the hospital?' he muttered.
'Dr. He, what are you up to?' a passing nurse asked, eyeing his sneaky behavior.
He raised a finger to his lips in a shushing gesture, then whispered, 'If that woman asks where Dr. Shen is, tell her he's in surgery.'
The nurse gave him a dubious look.
'I'll buy you bubble tea,' Henry Mills said, flashing her his most charming smile.
As the nurse headed over, Eva Snow intercepted her. 'Do you know where Yancy Shaw is?' she demanded. The nurse dutifully recited Henry Mills's excuse.
Eva Snow stopped searching. She left the hospital and set off for the Shen family home.
Henry Mills walked into Yancy Shaw’s office, patting him on the shoulder. 'Guess who I just saw?'
Yancy Shaw looked up with a cool glance, unimpressed. 'That’s your business, not mine.'
Henry Mills stayed on topic anyway. 'Ran into that spoiled brat from the Snow family—she looked frantic, searching the whole building for you.'
At the mention of Eva Snow, Yancy Shaw’s expression darkened.
'What's she want with me?'
'Who knows what her latest drama is about.' Henry Mills never cared much for Eva Snow. Back in college, if any girl so much as spoke to Yancy Shaw, Eva Snow would make trouble for them. He'd even caught her bullying someone before, and when he tried to intervene, Eva Snow almost turned her wrath on him too—then tattled to her brother Sean Snow, making it sound like he'd picked on her.
After that, Henry Mills steered clear at all costs. No wonder Yancy Shaw would sooner die than marry her.
When they graduated, the Snow family went straight to Shen Wentings’s father to arrange a marriage—all that 'two families becoming even closer' nonsense.
Yancy Shaw’s answer: 'If you want me to marry her, you’ll have to kill me first.'
The Snow family had been itching for an alliance for ages—one daughter married off wasn't enough, now they wanted Eva Snow to snare the other Shen brother. Too bad the Shen brothers were the last people to accept such deals—they weren’t interested in marriage-for-profit.
Yancy Shaw’s phone rang—it was Mrs. Chen calling.
His brow furrowed at the sight of her name, a bad feeling creeping in.
He picked up, and Mrs. Chen’s voice came through, sharp and angry. 'Yancheng, get home right now. I have something to ask you.'
'Say it over the phone. I don’t have time right now.'
There was a pause. Then Mrs. Chen’s voice dropped—seems she’d gone somewhere private. 'Did you know Lauren Shaw was engaged before?'
Before Yancy Shaw could reply, Mrs. Chen pressed on. 'How could you keep something like this from us?'
If Eva Snow hadn’t barged in today to spill the beans, they’d all still be in the dark.
'How did you find out?'
'Eva Snow came to the house today and told us. She even claimed Shengsheng broke up someone else’s relationship…' Mrs. Chen rattled off everything Eva Snow had said, word for word.
Yancy Shaw ended the call, storm clouds darkening his face.
Henry Mills saw the sudden shift. 'What happened?' he asked, sensing trouble.
Yancy Shaw said nothing, checked the time—right when his shift ended—took off his white coat, grabbed his car keys, and left without a word.
Henry Mills followed, teasing, 'You’re awfully eager to get off work lately—bolting out the door on the dot.'
But as Yancy Shaw quickened his pace, ignoring the comment, Henry Mills dropped his joking tone. 'Don’t tell me Eva Snow did something again?'
Yancy Shaw, in high dudgeon, drove straight back to the Shen home.
Eva Snow greeted him with a smile. 'Yancheng, you’re back.'
'What did you tell my parents?' he asked, his gaze cold as ice.
'Don’t you know? That Lauren Shaw woman has been lying to you. She actually—' Eva Snow started, but he cut her off in a low, warning voice. 'Does it have anything to do with you?'
Eva Snow stared at him, incredulous. 'You knew all along?'
'Instead of meddling in other people’s lives, maybe you should worry about yourself. If Ancheng is too boring for you, I’ve no problem sending you somewhere else.'
His icy look cowed her, his words stung deep.
'Do you really have to be this heartless? You’d rather fall for a woman who was once engaged to another man than look at me?'
Yancy Shaw glanced at her, utterly unmoved. 'I don't care.'
Eva Snow was stunned, staring at him in disbelief. 'She was with another man and you still don’t care?'
He didn’t answer, but his expression told her everything.
'No, I don’t believe it. How could you not care?'
Yancy Shaw turned to Mandy Snow. 'Is that how the Xues teach their children?'
Embarrassed, Mandy Snow managed a smile and tugged Eva Snow’s hand. 'Yueyue, that’s enough.'
Sitting stiffly on the living room sofa, Mrs. Chen looked at Yancy Shaw, face dark as a thundercloud, and snorted coldly. 'You all really kept this quiet—it seems I was the last to know.'
